Packing Cubes

I used to think these were just fancy zippered bags…until I tried them. Now they’re the first thing I grab when packing. They help me fold everything neatly and keep like items grouped together, making unpacking a breeze.

Pill Case

Because nothing says “fun vacation” like digging around for a rogue vitamin in the bottom of your tote. A compact pill case keeps everything in one spot and (bonus!) mine has small, removable daily cases so I can just grab one and toss it in my bag.

Hotel Socks

Call me a germaphobe, but I cringe at the thought of walking barefoot on a hotel floor. These keep you comfy, cozy, and protected from dreaded invisible foot threats.

In-Transit Comforts

Compression Socks

As a young person, I thought compression socks were for old people. As a (cough) slightly older (cough) person, I completely get the benefit of not dealing with achy ankles after a long flight or full day of driving. Get a pair. Your unswollen gams will thank you.

Noise-Canceling Headphones

Whether it’s staving off engine hum, hotel hallway chatter, or the seatmate whose anticipatory glances scream “I’m a Chatty Kathy,” these save my sanity.

Lip Balm

I’m not saying I have a lip balm problem, but…there’s always one in my personal item and one in my “just in case” stash. Dry lips never even get the chance. This inexpensive classic is my favorite.

Everyday Must-Haves

Water Bottle

You can bring any water bottle you want, but I’m going to sing the praises of my favorite. Sorry not sorry, Stanley fans. I’m an Owala girl. Doesn’t leak. Keeps water cold. Sip and chug options. Actually fits in a cup holder (the shade!!!).

Portable Charger

Your phone will run out of juice at the exact wrong moment. This ensures I’m never stranded without directions, a digital ticket, or the ability to capture the world’s largest gnome in all its glory.

Sunglasses

They’re functional, they look good in photos, and they stop me from burning my retinas. What’s not to love?

Comfortable Shoes

This is the most important thing you’ll pack. The right shoes turn a long day of exploring into fun memories instead of sore feet and regret. I’m in my sneaker head era, but any comfortable, long-lasting shoe will do.

Final Thoughts

These are the items that have earned a permanent spot in my suitcase, whether I’m jetting off for a few days or just escaping for the weekend. But I know everyone has their own ride-or-die travel essentials.
